Sculpture Scan - Mosman Bay

Scan of a seed sculpture at Mosman Bay, Perth using my iPhone and processing with Metashape.

Mission Summary

• Goal: We were simply sitting on the grass enjoying some quite time on the foreshore when I spotted this goregous sculpture. I grabbed my trusty iPhone and did two orbits (one low and one mid level), then I grabbed my daughter and got her to sit on my shoulders to capture a high orbit.
• Tech: iPhone 8s, Metashape
• Conditions: Midday, sunny, super pleasant weather
• Outcome: Overall a detailed scan, however in the shady areas it's broken and hollow, I need to improve me capture techniques in future.

Level of detail is clear not only on the seed sculpture but on the concrete services cap next to it.

Hollow sections in the model from inadequate overlap of imagery, this was in a shadowed zone

• Goal:  Test photogrammetry from a smartphone
• Tech: iPhone8s, Autodesk ReCap
• Conditions: Midday and raining
• Outcome: Smartphone camera can be a powerful tool for reality capture

We were down at the local park for an afternoon walk, when I went to test some simple photogrammetry methodology using my smartphone daughter decided she wanted to be part of the scan.

This (IMO) was a successful scan.

This has been another 'drone adventure' in aerial surveying, inspection and mapping by The Aero Scout.

• Tech: iPhone8s, Autodesk ReCap
• Conditions: Early Afternoon and cloudy
• Outcome: Handheld camera in a smartphone can be a powerful tool for reality capture

We were down at the local park for an afternoon walk, when I went to test some simple photogrammetry methodology using my smartphone daughter decided she wanted to be part of the scan.

You can see that  whilst she assures me she did not move a muscle there is still some slight distortion around her body, whilst the tree is in near perfect focus. I guess this demonstrates how sensitive the technique is to even the slightest movement. Also see video below;
